BRUJAS ‘Food Fight’ Forum 2025 continues the work of over a decade of comprehensive interactive design projects by the collective. Inspired by farm/domestic labor organizing, food justice, and immigration rights. The “FOOD FIGHT” project forum intends to to inspire the BRUJAS World Syndicate membership into action against rising fascism and militarization in our communities. Members are invited to work together on projects and art. We’re coming together on food and set on organizing together in the interest of nutrition and care !

H-2A_Addendum_A_FY2021_Q3

The H-2A program allows U.S. employers or U.S. agents who meet specific regulatory requirements to bring foreign nationals to the United States to fill temporary agricultural jobs. The following document reports the wages paid through this program during Q3 of 2021. Scroll to the right to view the corresponding hourly wages and piece rates for different crops, typically measured by pounds or by the volume of different units including crates, bushels, and containers. These rates were used to determine an approximate piece rate per pound or by item as reflected as a portion of the cost of the consumer good. Most consumer items pick rate is less than 1% of the consumer price. When factoring in the cost of transportation, seeding, watering and caring for crops, the price of producing the pieces increases. This is one perspective on the labor conditions that make American agriculture possible that offers a window into larger questions on the equity and efficacy of for-profit food systems.

One definition of domestication is the historical process of organizing plants and animals through employed architecture, labor, science, reason, and propaganda.

Storytelling and Food’s relationship is found at the origin of civilization. We enjoy telling stories about food ! However, without the organized system of agriculture, there would be no professional specialization around storytelling. No storytelling INDUSTRY. Meaning, once societies settled around agriculture, surplus food made it possible for certain members of society to become “professional storytellers.” Many of the first professional storytellers were employed by the government as civil servants, carrying the responsibility of figuring out how to frame the logic of their civic leaders, who conceptualized shared land into a government structure with a division of labor.

How we tell stories influences how we cultivate and consume food, and how we cultivate and consume food influences how we tell stories. Instagram reels of food prep and restaurant reviews flood our feeds, crafting our tastes ! Iconic movies such as Coming to America and Good Burger have been made within the setting of fast food restaurants, because of all the perspective they lend on social life. Macdonna critiques the use of rappers and hip hop culture makers as marketing conduits for fast food meals. And furthermore, critiques Fast Food as a privatized, sick, aid system to the unpaid reproductive and domestic laborer class.

Why and who gets what to eat, second plates, the leftovers, who starves, who slaves, and who works where, is a story that civic leadership develops, forming the foundation of our notion of politics. The decay resulting from the compounds legitimately fabricated industrially against the nutritional needs of our bodies are the material politics of death. This film positions Drake, Ronald McDonald, and President’s who dismantle family welfare, including Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan, as storytellers who craft through their speech, the cultivation and reproductive methods that promote racialized capitalism. These stories and products are expressed with deep, unforgivable, misogyny towards mothers through the employment of speed and volume as a value system. Through out the film the tone can get intense, that is because the action of such industries and anti-black political narratives are harming and killing people. The dismantling of welfare, and the promotion of private, rapid, food services such as McDonald’s, is a cultivation method, made possible by narratives that degrade women and their labor.

Many contemproary political battles are rooted in the question of what to do and how to organize around surplus. This project holds the perspective that all labor that creates value should be compensated, critiquing both the political work that enslaves, and racializes the labor of agricultural workers, as well as the political work that invisibilizes and devalues women, caretakers, and reproductive laborers.
